Dr. Sakharov: The upcoming launch of the DEA's enhanced Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS) marks a significant advancement in the regulatory landscape for controlled substances. For businesses like ours involved in the production and distribution of iodine—a critical mineral with applications in pharmaceuticals and other industries—this development is particularly relevant.
The new CSOS aims to provide increased security and streamline the electronic ordering process without impacting customer service or patient access to medications. With approximately 190,000 of the DEA's registrants utilizing the system, the enhancements could lead to more efficient supply chain operations and compliance procedures.
Staying abreast of such regulatory changes is essential for strategic planning and maintaining our commitment to excellence in customer service. As we start to extract and supply critical minerals like iodine, understanding and adapting to these updates ensures we remain a trusted partner in the industry. It's another reminder that in our line of work, attention to regulatory detail is just as important as innovation in extraction technologies.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will launch the new Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS) on December 9, 2024. The new system will provide increased security without impacting customer service or patients’ access to medications.
The system—used by DEA-registered pharmaceutical drug manufacturers and distributors, pharmacies, hospitals, and others—allows for the electronic ordering of Schedule I through V controlled substances.
An estimated 190,000 of DEA’s more than 2.1 million registrants utilize CSOS. Learn more about the new, enhanced CSOS program and upcoming training opportunities.
DEA’s Controlled Substance Ordering System (CSOS) facilitates the electronic ordering of controlled substances in Schedules I through V. It allows for secure electronic transmission of controlled substance orders without the supporting documents previously required.
The DEA will be launching the new CSOS on December 9, 2024, which will change how DEA registrants request CSOS enrollment and additional users. Stay tuned for virtual training sessions by checking Diversion Control’s upcoming events.
